The third and final dAIEDGE Open Call for Collaborative Projects officially closed on 17 October at 17:00 (Brussels time), marking another important milestone for the European Edge AI community. The level of participation once again exceeded our expectations, demonstrating the growing maturity and engagement of innovators across Europe in the field of Edge AI.
The results of this third Open Call significantly surpassed those of the previous two editions. While the first call registered 146 initiated applications, with 36 successfully submitted from 21 countries, the second reached 529 initiated applications, 236 submissions, and participation from 33 countries. The third and most recent call has set a new benchmark with 704 applications initiated, 277 submitted, and applicants representing 39 countries.
This consistent growth across all indicators reflects the expanding reach of the dAIEDGE initiative and its success in fostering a dynamic and collaborative European ecosystem for Edge AI innovation. Spain, Greece and Italy stood out as the countries with the highest number of applications, confirming their active roles within the European innovation landscape.
Among the thirteen challenges proposed, the most selected was Challenge 8 – Health Monitoring AI for Edge Devices with Privacy-First, highlighting the increasing relevance of privacy-preserving artificial intelligence in critical sectors such as healthcare.
The diversity of participants also stood out in this final call. A total of 284 small and medium-sized enterprises took part, along with 63 academic institutions and 23 research and technology organisations. In total, 235 single-entity applications and 36 consortia were submitted, illustrating the strong collaborative spirit that defines the dAIEDGE network.
