Is Europe ready to lead the way in the future of virtual worlds?

The future of virtual worlds is being shaped right now. But what role will Europe play in shaping it?

As Virtual Worlds and XR technologies advance, an increasingly important question arises: does Europe have the necessary capabilities to compete and lead on a global scale?

The answer does not depend solely on software. Behind the XR experiences of the future lies an entire ecosystem of chips, components, sensors, optical systems, connectivity and computing technologies that will be key to making them a reality.

With this challenge as its starting point, dAIEDGE, together with members of the Virtual Worlds Association (VWA) and external experts, and within the framework of the European Partnership for Virtual Worlds, has developed a new Position Paper on “XR Chips & Components Pilot-Line”.

The document opens a strategic conversation about Europe’s technological future and how to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive international landscape.

For dAIEDGE, this consideration is particularly relevant. The evolution of XR devices will be increasingly linked to technologies such as AI and Edge AI, bringing intelligence closer to where the data is generated and enabling a new generation of smarter and more efficient devices.

But turning European capabilities into global leadership will require something more: a shared vision, collaboration and connections between research, industry and technology.
