Our event Driving business models and solutions with Edge AI was a HUGE SUCCESS!

Yesterday, at dAIEDGE, we held the event Driving Business Models and Solutions with Edge AI at the University of Salamanca's R&D&I Building. The event brought together companies, researchers, and students to explore the potential of Edge AI and its impact on key sectors.

The event began with a presentation by Manal Jammal (AIR Institute) on dAIEDGE, highlighting how dAIEDGE connects innovators across Europe to develop secure, reliable and scalable Edge AI solutions. Next, Guillermo González from the NOUS project showed how collaborative and personalised models at the edge are transforming data processing, highlighting the potential of Federated Learning as a privacy-first approach that is ready for real-world deployment.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation by Nuria Pazos (HES-SO Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale), who introduced attendees to our dAIEDGE-VLab, a virtual environment that allows AI models to be tested, compared and optimised on different hardware platforms in a secure, flexible and collaborative way.

Attendees also learned about two of our use cases. Juan Odriozola and Giovanni Paolini (Vicomtech) presented the second dAIEGDE use case, in which we addressed the integration of Edge AI in the pre-processing of satellite images. Thanks to this use case, we were able to reduce latency from hours to less than a minute, which is key for emergencies such as forest fires or oil spills. Using continuous learning strategies and multi-agent systems, this approach will improve environmental monitoring and tracking of changes in polar regions, using SAR data to obtain reliable results even in adverse conditions.

For his part, Miguel de Prado (VERSES) shared the use case of ‘Smart Warehouse’ in Smart Cities environments, showing how the integration of Edge AI allows real-time detection and tracking of road users, interaction with vehicles and VR/AR devices, and improved road safety while protecting privacy.

We also had the participation of projects that make up the AI NoE network: Horizon Enfield and Elias, who showed us their projects and calls for proposals.

The morning ended with Ana Martins (Funding Box) presenting the dAIEDGE Open Calls, in which participants can obtain up to €60,000 to promote their Edge AI projects. She shared the results of the first two calls and announced that the third will arrive this summer, opening up new opportunities for funding and innovation in the sector.

  • The action did not end there

In the afternoon, we held our hackathon, where participants presented their ideas and business models in three key areas: Smart Cities, Accessibility for the elderly and social impact, and operational efficiency of small businesses. Finally, our jury, composed of Sergio Márquez (AIR Institute), Raúl López (USAL) and Blanca García (President of the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Salamanca and Castile and León, and Director of Crece Digital), announced the winner: Bruno Oré, who proposed a response to the second challenge, standing out for the innovation, viability and positive impact of his proposal.
