dAIEDGE´s Impact in July 2025!

July has been marked by a clear commitment to the development of talent and the promotion of innovative solutions. During this month we have held two key events that have brought together students, researchers, companies and leaders of the European ecosystem of artificial intelligence applied to the Edge.

On the one hand, the dAIEDGE Summer School took place at the prestigious Scuola Universitaria Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, Italy. This intensive two-day program brought together participants from around the world to immerse themselves in the world of Edge AI, edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Through keynotes delivered by high-level experts from the Edge AI industry and academia, attendees were able to gain key insights while developing technical and strategic skills through hands-on sessions. From the fundamentals to the most advanced applications in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing or smart cities.

In addition, we held the event Driving Business Models and Solutions with Edge AI, which became a meeting point for companies, researchers and students to discuss how Edge AI is driving innovation in key sectors.

One of the highlights was the presentation by Nuria Pazos (HES-SO) on the dAIEDGE-VLab, a virtual environment that allows testing, comparing and optimizing AI models on different hardware platforms. This tool is essential to experiment and validate Edge AI solutions in safe and flexible conditions.

During the event, two of our most innovative use cases were also presented.

  • Juan Odriozola and Giovanni Paolini (Vicomtech) shared the case related to the preprocessing of satellite images, managing to reduce latency from hours to less than a minute, something crucial for emergencies such as forest fires or oil spills. Thanks to continuous learning techniques and multi-agent systems, this case has a strong impact on environmental monitoring, even in polar regions.
  • Miguel de Prado (VERSES) presented the case of the Smart Warehouse applied to smart cities, demonstrating how Edge AI improves road safety through real-time detection of road users, interaction with vehicles and VR/AR devices, all while protecting privacy.

We were also joined by AI Network of Excellence (AI NoE) projects such as Horizon Enfield and Elias, who shared their progress and open calls.

Ana Martins (FundingBox) closed the morning with a presentation of our Open Calls, highlighting that selected projects can receive up to €60,000 to boost their Edge AI ideas. He shared the results of the first two calls and announced that the third call will open this summer.

In the afternoon, a hackathon was held in which participants presented proposals around three challenges: Smart Cities, accessibility for seniors and social impact, and operational efficiency for small businesses. After an intense brainstorming session, the jury - formed by Sergio Márquez (AIR Institute), Raúl López (USAL) and Blanca García (Crece Digital) - chose Bruno Oré as the winner, for his innovative solution to the second challenge, standing out for its feasibility and positive impact.
