The International Spanish Centre at the University of Salamanca today hosted International Cooperation Day, an event organised within the framework of CyberChain—the International Chair in Blockchain for Cybersecurity. The meeting brought together experts from around the world to discuss technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation, fostering new partnerships, and sharing knowledge.
The opening session featured contributions from Juan Manuel Corchado, Rector of the University of Salamanca; Raúl Amarelle, Operations Manager at RETECH and helpline 017 of INCIBE; and Laura Grande, researcher at the CyberChain Chair. In his address, the Rector underlined the role of INCIBE as a key institution in promoting a culture of cybersecurity and in providing valuable solutions for universities and businesses alike.
Within this framework, Alain Pagani, Deputy Director of the Augmented Vision Research Department at DFKI and coordinator of dAIEDGE, presented the project and its vision for the future: to reinforce Europe’s leadership in Edge AI through innovation, international collaboration, and real-world impact. Pagani emphasised the strategic importance of our partner network, united by a shared commitment to establishing Europe as a global benchmark in this technology.
This was followed by a presentation from Micaela Verucchi (Hipert), who highlighted several use cases being developed within dAIEDGE, focusing on the field of Smart Cities. She explained how our solutions can be directly applied to urban and business environments, driving greater efficiency, improved resource management, and enhanced security.
The day concluded with a roundtable featuring Micaela Verucchi and Óscar Deniz (University of Castilla-La Mancha), alongside experts from universities in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. The discussion ended on a highly positive note, reaffirming that international cooperation is essential to successfully tackling today’s global technological challenges.
